Cinnabon wouldn't hand over the recipe for those famous cinnamon rolls, so Food Network Kitchens whipped up some pretty sweet imitations.

The dough I ultimately created is best made over two days. Not only does this break up the work, but I think the flavor from a slow-risen dough tastes better. ***This is the original Cinnamon Roll recipe! All other sweet roll recipe variations that I do come from this. Let's start by making the dough.

Instructions to make Cinnamon Rolls:
  1. Combine all the ingredients in a bread maker and select the “dough” course or program.
  2. Once the dough has mixed and fermented, take it out and roll it into ball. Then, cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 15 minutes.
  3. After 15 minutes, roll out the dough into a rectangle. It should be around 20cm x 30cm and 0.5cm in thickness.
  4. Then, mix the filling ingredients together and spread it over the dough, leaving a 1cm gap of dough on only one side of the dough.
  5. Next, roll the dough and use floss or a knife to cut the rolled dough into pieces, about 3cm in width. It should leave you with around 9 rolls.
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the cinnamon rolls inside.
  7. Cover the cinnamon rolls with a damp towel and let them proof for a second time, for around 50 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  8. Preheat the oven to 180°C and then bake the cinnamon rolls for 20 minutes.
  9. Pour the icing over the cinnamon rolls for extra sweetness.

OVERNIGHT INSTRUCTIONS: After you've rolled and cut your cinnamon rolls and placed them into your lightly greased baking pan, cover with plastic wrap and place in your refrigerator.
